INTERVIEW - 11/28/04

So you in SF for the minute. Where are you coming from and where are you headed next?: Yes i am here for a few days.. just got back from israel waz there wit da ipath crew and some earth heads. bouncin back to espanya on monday then hit up morrocco and dubai.. kreep into russia before christmas for this contest/demo things.
So you're still living in Barcelona. You've been there for over 2.5 years. What have you learned from living there so long that someone might not know from a short visit?: not that much really.. apart from where to go at night and good places to eat.. i dont really spend any time there.. just a few days then i leave usually.
Has security starting shutting down the spots yet?: from what im told yes. i heard they made a law about skating in public places or something. i'm not sure whats up.. i'm going to find out soon though..
Next country you're going to travel to that you haven't been to yet?: baku, ajerbajan
Upcoming interviews or video parts you're working on?: yeah popwar video and interview in skateboarder.
Where's that bench you B/S lipslide?: in israel
Israel? You were just there. What was that like? Who did you go with? Best part about the place?: it was really wild times there. it can get hectic.. but the skaters are cool so its good hanging out and meeting nice people.
Do you ever plan on settling down somewhere? If so, where?: na i don't think soo. i'm just going to keep going until i fall over. sometimes i think about staying somewhere but then once im there for a bit i get bored and want to leave. check something else out.. some new shit no one been to yet. my mind just starts plotting.
Last time you skated vert? What trick if any did you do that got you all excited?: last time was in bulgaria i guess.. they have this big vert ramp in a park in the center of the city (sofia) good times watch out for the women though:) i think i was excited after i landed the trick... i was slamming alot that day.
Favorite way to pass the time on long train or bus rides while traveling?: trying to learn russian and other varieties of the slovic tounge. i'm pretty interested in the finno-urgic language group lately.
I hear that you're obsessed with Russia, what's your deal with it?: well you know... it's russia!! they have alot too offer i think.
Where do you consider home?: i don't really. it's a lonely time but i am alright most of the time.. i have a room which i pay for in barcelona spain.
Favorite hats?: ohh thats a good one.. it would have to be my collection of magyar/kossack style hats.. the astrakhan is a favorite as well.. anything from the lower volga and rostov on don area excites me. i've recently aquired a very rare timurlane replica of hat once warn by his great nephew barbar.. anyhow. the mongolian steepe hats are in there too..
Favorite IPaths besides yours to skate in?: hmmm well i really like mine. i think i'm just used to them... haven't gotten a chance to try the lows yet, i'm pretty excited to though.
Another vert question. If you could land anything, what would it be?: i dont know some new shit.. maybe just a fat kickflip to fakie like 15 feet out.
Every broken a photographer's equipment on accident?: yes i did lance dawes bent his fisheye things.. i don't think he was too upset with me though...

What's new?: new shoes. i'm happy. thanks nate for bring them to me in new zealand.
Last skate trip?: new zealand and fiji!! the best skater in fiji is a 12 year old girl and she's only been skating for three months.
Favorite IPath shoe right now?: mine is the best!!
Music you're feeling right now?: I'm getting back into bangra. It is really intense.
Upcoming video parts/ tours/ trips?: india, pakistan, shang hai, and brunei
Daily routine these days?: wake up at 6am. on the internet until 10am. meet friends for coffee go skate.
Whatcha' reading?: just finished book about a polynesian princess. "queen emma". anything by wilfred thesiger is really really good.
Last film watched?: "it's a wonderful life". watched part of it last night fell asleep. want to get in da christmas spirit.

I know that you've traveled the world and lived in Spain for a little while but I wanted to know which is you favorite place and which do you consider to have the best spots/skate community?[submitted by: Jordan Poe ]: - well, don't let the secret out jordan, but i think the best cities for skate spots right now are singapore,shanghai, and of course barcelona. i know this for sure, but i'm sure there are more cities as good; i just haven't really found out about yet.
Whats your favorite part of the San Francisco scene? The people, the hills, the vibes or is it a culmination of all these things?[submitted by: eric wollam ]: - i like san francisco because of all the things. i've got friends there, and i am familiar with people and places there. its a good place for me to call home.
how's popwar going? Any team trips or video footage soon?[submitted by: lane ]: - popwar is going good. we just got back from a trip to miami. it was fun cause we had the whole team together for the first time. we will have an article in strength i think.
What makes you travel to all these strange countries like India rather than going to Barca or Paris where you know there are great spots? Are these trips more skate missions or touristy? ever been to Turkey?[submitted by: Elbo ]: - i like checking out all different kinds of places weather well know for skating or not. if i have the opportunity to go somewhere new, where no one has skated, its really fun because its new for all the people there and your introducing it to them. it is mostly missions, because most times when you're somewhere new, you have to go and find the spots. so it may take all day, especially without a local showing you around. but i do try to stay for a few days extra after everyone leaves. that way i can check stuff out for myself and get my own experience.

where do you get all those crazy hats?[submitted by: cole ]: - i get them all over. it's fun to wear them. cause' sometimes they're hats only popular in one place in the world. but only people from there know that.
Why did you chose to ride for i-path when you could ride for any other shoe company?[submitted by: Andy Bergstrom ]: - because they're my friends and some of my favorite skaters.
do you do any stretching exercises to stay flexible to skate with your kind of style?[submitted by: Kris Johnson ]: - i try to stretch but its hard to find a place and time to do it most times. so no; i guess not that much. but i am going to do it more; starting today.
i liked the music selection of Shuggie Otis for your new deal video part, and i was wondering what kind of music you were into?[submitted by: steve ]: - i like many different styles of music. i like music where you can tell the musician is really feeling it. any kind really.
What is one place in the world you have never been to and plan on visiting sometime soon?[submitted by: Lane ]: -tashkent, uzbekistan. or almaty, kazahkstan... almaty has a skate park. and amazing marble plazas all over the city.
